For the Love of Rest

In between the rustle, hiss and hustle of our lives, is a sweet spacious oasis of rest.

And no-one is going to mind if you excuse yourself from the table of busyness for, really, as long as you like.

I’m not championing to give up your responsibilities, but more to delight in the sweetness of doing nothing, of allowing rest to be an activity held in the highest regard.

Can we rebrand disappearing into restful undocumented moments as the true treasures? There might not be any tangible results, no productive wins, efficiencies or progress to report. But you might steal away with something wildly more precious - a life well lived, space for your natural creativity to unfurl, introspections and self contemplation.

Some of my favourite effects of yoga are in the ways it makes us confront the idea of time well spent and how settling into an asana, without the pressure of a perfect pose, but tuning into our muscles, tissues, bones and floating energies, produces a deepening reward that I can’t show ROI or CPD (or any other inane acronym) but that creates radical shifts within.

I’m sure we’re all accustomed to those moments of vulnerability and tenderness that life presents. The way that they force a stop. Thank God. I’ve found the art of nidra, of yogic sleep, administered with love and care, to be a soothing balm to my nervous system, a natural recalibration of whatever might be out of balance in the body. Gentle, natural and powerful beyond the realms of my imagination.

So for the love of rest, I implore you: to as much as possible, turn the tides, and let your days not be full of sizzle with moments carved for peace, but let the power of peace create a revolution of ease, trust and grace like you’ve never experienced before.

Aya is a huge advocate for peace, so go have a cup of tea, let the tension seep out of your skin - it’s entirely not needed. Listen to a nidra, practice yoga (with real people if you can), lie down in the grass, say something kind, love for loves sake and for the love of rest.

With love,

Jaia (Sadhana)

My promise: I’m committed to creating authentic pieces of writing, my blogs will remain AI-free, quality (hopefully) material.
